Born in the rural hamlet of Oakridge and raised by a clan of artistic wolves, Isaac Holk grew up with his two brothers in the Oregon woods. He learned to survive by carving fallen tree branches into deadly bow and arrows. He built tree forts. Adventure ruled the day.
Animals respected the woodsman. And the woodsman came to respect the animal as something more than dinner. A love was born. As a youngster, Isaac explored far and wide, including the San Diego and Portland Zoos. Polar bears and penguins awed him. As he grew, Isaac took to drawing his friends, notably bears, lions and cats.
“Since before I can remember I’ve loved to draw. I think growing up where I did and being surrounded by the people I knew affected my artistic interest and overall style,” Isaac reflects.
After acing every art class he’s ever taken, Isaac graduated to the big city, serving as chief artist-in-residence at his Portland house and embarking on more creative endeavors than you can shake a stick at. Today, Isaac forages for dinner as an illustrator and designer for Zookeeper. He also enjoys howling at the moon.
